SADD Chairman Stephen Wallace to be Honored by the American Camp Association
Marlborough, Mass. – Stephen Wallace, SADD Chairman and CEO, will be honored Thursday, February 14, by the American Camp Association (ACA) for his efforts to promote the benefits of the summer camp experience. The Special Recognition Award will be presented to Mr. Wallace at a ceremony during ACA’s national conference in Nashville, Tennessee, where he will be speaking to camp directors about youth mentoring.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by an industry with proven success in helping children and young adults meet critical developmental goals, including ones related to positive identity, social and thinking skills, and values,” said Wallace, who also pointed to SADD’s own Teens Today research in validating the important role that camps play in fostering healthy decision-making.
The American Camp Association is a community of camp professionals who, for nearly 100 years, have joined together to share knowledge and experience and to ensure the quality of camp programs. ACA, which accredits more than 2,400 camps, is a leading authority in the field of child development.
In addition to serving as chairman of SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Wallace is the director of counseling and counselor training at the Cape Cod Sea Camps and an adjunct professor of psychology at Mount Ida College. Articulate, bright, and passionate about his work with teens, Wallace has shared his knowledge and insights with a national audience. He speaks to teens and parents across the country, motivating families to communicate about healthy choices and presenting findings from original research.
Wallace serves as a spokesperson on behalf of ACA and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. He also writes for ACA’s Camping Magazine and is an advice columnist for parentingteensonline.com. His book, Reality Gap, is due out in August from Sterling Publishing/Union Square Press.
